Slat conveyors

Designed & supplied by Paul Hedfeld

We provide you with apron conveyors according to your requirements and specifications

Apron feeders are used to feed and remove large and heavy materials. Thanks to their robust design, heavy materials such as stones, mixed construction waste, bulky waste, commercial waste, etc. can also be fed in.

Belt widths of up to 3,000mm and throughput rates (depending on the material) of up to 500 t/h are possible.

In its discharge function, the apron conveyor is similar to the belt conveyor, also known as a conveyor belt. Instead of the rubber belt, interlocking steel plates (so-called short cells) are used, which are each connected laterally by an axis via a hollow pin chain. The two hollow pin chains also serve as a means of traction and are driven or deflected by sprockets.
On the link plates, also known as chain links, there are rollers at regular intervals that run on rails attached to the side or underneath the hollow pin chain.

The plate surface is flat or provided with upwardly projecting driver bars. Almost all versions have side walls, which means that a greater layer height can be achieved on an apron feeder than on a conveyor belt, for example.
The apron conveyor is ideal for heavy-duty operating conditions, such as coarse-grained, highly abrasive and angular bulk materials with particle sizes of over 1,000 mm and temperatures of up to 800 °C.

It is also very suitable for poorly flowing, moist, fine-grained products that require large discharge dimensions and have high internal friction (e.g. moist loam, clay, filter cake). Typical lengths of apron conveyors are between 2 m and 15 m
The conveying speed is around 0.01 m/s to 0.5 m/s.
The power and energy requirements are significantly higher than for belt conveyors.

The basic frame consists of a folded and bolted sheet metal construction in modular design. Accessories such as ripcord switches, speed monitors, dust covers, suction hoods and underbelt covers can be fitted. Numerous inspection openings are also provided for maintenance and cleaning work.

The bolted-on wear rails, which can be replaced in the base frame, ensure precise and smooth belt travel. The overlapping of the cold-formed steel plates on the sides and the side rails ensures a high level of dust and dirt-tightness in the side rail area. The apron feeder elements can be supported by an impact table integrated into the apron feeder in the material feed and transfer area.
