Snail trees / snail waves
Designed & supplied by Paul Hedfeld
We manufacture complete screw shafts according to your specifications, sketches and on-site measurements for conveying, mixing, dosing, discharging, feeding, pressing, cooling and heating.
In modern specifications, metal is usually used for the screw thread, but other materials are also used in special cases. Different designs are used depending on the task and the goods to be conveyed:
- A full-blade screw consists either of a continuous thread or of individual screw flight segments that are butt-jointed. Solid-blade screws are used for powdery, fine-grained and non-baking bulk materials.
- With a belt thread, there is a space between the thread itself and the screw shaft. The thread is connected to the shaft via webs. This design is used for conveying lumpy and adhesive bulk materials.
- The paddle screw does not have a continuous thread, it consists of individual segments which are connected to the shaft. This design is suitable for baking goods and for mixing the conveyed material.
Tubes are usually used as snail waves, as they weigh considerably less than solid shafts with the same strength. Bearing journals or drive journals are welded into both ends. In the case of flexible screws, the shaft is dispensed with (soulless screw or spiral). The worm shafts can be installed on your premises by experienced fitters.
